Brut Aspen Mulch is 30% carbon. Carbon under the soil takes nitrogen away from the plants. Whereas using it as a top dressing is a great way to get carbon into the soil without the nitrogen drain.
Spreading Brut Aspen Mulch on top of the soil allows the organic matter to break down, slowly releasing carbon and other minerals over time.
